Sometimes it’s worth asking – am I helping my hair or am I not doing enough to help it? It may seem like a silly question, but even simple changes can make all the difference to the look and feel of your hair.
Haircare shouldn’t be a complicated task, especially as you lead a busy life and need a cut that is stylish but still practical. Here are a few simple tips for male hair care, to help you get more from your hairstyle.

1. Know Your Hair Type
Your hair type determines the texture and moisture levels of your hair. So, whether you have curly, wavy, straight or coiled hair, once you understand what type of hair you have, you are then able to choose the right routines and products for it.
For example, straight hair tends to oily faster than other hair types, whilst curly hair is more prone to drying out.
2. Find the Right Shampoo & Conditioner
Look for sulphate-free shampoos as these are kinder to your hair and scalp. The main issue with sulphate shampoos is that they strip hair of its natural oils, which causes more dryness and irritation.
Try to use a conditioner that offers deep moisture, especially if you have curlier or coarser hair. You can help to keep your hair softer and more manageable with regular conditioning too.
3. Focus on Moisture
All hair types need moisture, but this is especially true for curly or textured hair. Hair oils, leave-in conditioners or creams can all help to lock in hydration. You can also add a little extra shine with natural oils like jojoba, coconut or argan, which can be quite transformative for your hair.

4. Let Your Hair Do the Hard Work
If you are looking for a new haircut or style, focus on one that can enhance your natural features and that fits into your lifestyle, rather than trying to conform to something that requires too much hard work.
Ideally, you’ll have a style that is to manage and maintain, so you’re not using too much time and product to keep it looking good. Too many chemicals or heat treatments are not good for your hair’s natural texture. Embrace styles that complement it, whether it’s straight, wavy or curly.
5. Take Care of Your Scalp
The scalp can sometimes be forgotten, as a lot of focus is put purely onto our hair. But generally, the healthier your scalp is, the healthier your hair will be.
Scalp massages are great at boosting circulation, which can support hair growth. Consider using scalp scrubs or treatments to prevent build-up. If you have dandruff, irritation or dryness, consider products specifically designed for those issues.
