With summer on its way out and autumn announcing its arrival, you may need to make few changes and our hair care tips could be just the thing.
The change in season often leads to dry split ends and frizzy strands, so if that sounds familiar, we’ve put together a few ideas on how to combat them.
Why do you get more dry hair and split ends in autumn?
If you’re wondering why you tend to get drier hair and split ends once summer is out the way, there’s a simple explanation.
Not only is the air dryer, but if you regularly wash, bleach or apply chemical treatments to your hair, it may be lacking in moisture.
You can rectify this pretty easily by using the right products to boost moisture and hydration and giving your trestles a little more care and attention.
How to add moisture and hydration to your hair
- Look for shampoos and conditioners that are formulated for adding moisture.
- Consider adding deep conditioning treatments such as hair masks to your weekly routine. Keratin, argan oil and shea butter tend to produce the best results.
- Using a lightweight leave-in conditioner can add moisture and give your hair more protection throughout the day.
- Reduce reliance on heat-styling tools (curling irons, blow dryers and flat irons) and apply a heat protectant spray when you do use them.
Give your scalp a luxury treatment
With the temperature falling it’s a great time to think about scalp treatments to keep it in a healthy condition.
It’s a little known fact that your scalp ages six times faster than your face, so giving it some TLC during the autumn can help to slow ageing. It will relieve some of the pressure off your hair, giving it a break from the dry hair, whilst balancing oil secretion to create a healthy shine.
Tips on styling your hair during the autumn
Autumn winds are stronger than mild summer breezes, so here are a couple of helpful tips on how to style and manage your hair:
- Use cooler water to wash your hair and use a heat protectant before styling. Try to include natural creams, serums and oils as part of your autumn hair care regime to control any unwanted frizz.
- To add volume to your hair during the autumn (which happens because humidity levels are lower) use specific shampoos and conditioners that focus on volume and thickness. Even better if you can find a mousse that adds body and thickness.
